View Full Version : Flickering Datamoon - DMX problem

OK, so the honeymoon is over with the Datamoons! One of them has a DMX problem.

When connected to the controller, it does what the controller is telling it to do in the most part, but the gobos don't change correctly, every few seconds they will change but flicker rapidly through all the gobos while doing it.

Changing it's status from Master to Slave makes no difference (still does it), the problem doesn't happen when it runs as a standalone.

Not a problem visually when everyone is dancing and drunk, so can be fixed after Xmas; Yes I have RTFM, no clues there. Any suggestions, apart from 'run them as standalone' or 'send it back to NJD'? You still got the receipt for 'em, Creature?

Is this datamoon the last fixture in your DMX "chain" ?
- if so it may be something like a dodgy cable, and thus giving a dodgy signal

Failing that it sounds like the DMX board in the datamoon is well having a moony. Possibly contact NJD for quick fixes/obvious problem solutions?

Might need a DMX terminator at the end of the chain - this will stop signal reflections confusing it and stop it from doing random things.

Thanks for the suggestions, but No to both of those: The fault is particular to the one light. I have tried it as both the first (Master) and last (Slave) of the pair and it is just the same in both situations, which also knocks out the connecting DMX lead and the controller as the problem.
