Hi Guys,

Last time I posted I got some really great advice so I hope you don't mind helping me out. :D

I'm a bit stuck, on two counts. Firstly, my PA.....it's pants! :(

I currently run 2 amps powering two pairs of full-range 'skytech' (sorry!) speakers. I did a wedding for about 120 people and nearly had the whole lot clipping out.

What's a good, compact (maybe 2 bins and 2 tops) pa system for upto 200 people. I know it's subjective but it's got to be better than what I'm using at the moment. What about active speakers (one less thing to cart about!).

Secondly, my stand arrangement....this too needs work.

I'm currently using a custom dj stand which has to be transported whole :bang:

And

2 T-Bars for lights (not ideal and rather scruffy). I could really use something that folds down and can carry the whole lot.

(2 laptops, mixer, 2 x amps, 8 lights)

Any ideas?

I know this is asking a lot (and most is subjective) but I feel I'm carrying way too much for not enough output.

Thanks Guys

Phil

Yeah, Should have mentioned that:

PA - £600-800

Stands - £200ish

Or not enough?

reference the stands...

So you need lighting and Deck stands, or just deck stands - yoou say you already have T-bar stands?

I do have T-bars but I'm worried about the weight loading and they look a bit scruffy so would be open to suggestion.

A winch-up stand seems like a good idea as I'm often setting up on my own but read some horror stories.

Basically, it just looks a mess at the moment and I would love to have less componants to my setup to transport and assemble.

Sorry, I know this is a lot to ask advice on but it's driving me nuts!! :bang:

£800 will get you a pair of Mackie SRM450 active cabs and a further £400 (ish) will get you an Ultimax winch and wheels stand.

Have a Google for them and let us know your thoughts.

Hi,

Thanks for this, I've had a look and they look like a god-send.

At the moment I'm carrying 2 amps and 4 (rather ungainly) speakers for about the same (if not less) sound output.

I have found a pair (ex display) for £699 so very tempted

Thanks Again

Make sure you go and listen to several pairs of cabs beore you decide if you can. Some people like Mackie and others don't.

A good choice for the budget and excellent value for money and quality, in my opinion. These have got to be one of the best purchases I've made.

don't know about the stand, but we use a pair of full range cerwin vega intense 152's (rated @ 600W) - these are full range and designed to work without bass bins link (http://www.djkit.co.uk/acatalog/Cerwin_Vega_Intense_INT152.html), and sound terrific, powered by a berry ep2500 giving 450w/channel into 8ohm. Those two together would be about £800 new.

I think the thread starter wanted something smaller and more compact though.

actually the cerwins are not too bad - 30" x 18" x 19" and the trapezoid shape makes them a very easy lift. The berry amp is bloody heavy tho! :-)

Whats not to like about Mackies Daz?

Im looking to downsize speakers next year, maybe next week:eek: ----

Hi Guys,

Thanks for all the pointers. I will certainly make the effort to listen to a few sets before investing (the cheap 'n' not-so-cheerful stuff I'm using at the moment was, I admit, bought in haste and on price.

The ultimax stands look ideal (if a little pricey  ) It'd be reassuring to know they'll not collapse though (my current concern with cheap T-bars!).

Any other suggestions then please continue to post as I appreciate all your ideas.

Thanks

Phil

I myself had a HK Audio Lucas system and decided to change to the mackie system. I bought some SRM450s 2 weeks ago today. Very nice sound. I am now looking into the SWA1801s mainly or possibly the 1501s (mackie subwoofers)

You'll have trouble moving the 1801s John - they weigh 60Kg each!

The 1501's will be more than enough. In fact one will be enough for most places.

well i must be the only one on this forum who likes the jbl eon15 g2 great disco speaker but not good for karaoke
a friend of mine said he was working with a band that used 350w 8" speakers and they sounded top notch and they were powered and under 200 quid
he said they sounded better than his ev's
i was thinking of seeing what they are like and maybe getting 4 and get one of those bars that can hold 2 speakers to fit on my stands
