Virtual DJ - Genius features

Hi all,

We're upgrading our laptop/midi controller and at the moment we are running PCDJ VJ with the Dac3 controller. Very happy with it but want to upgrade the controller, and thought we should upgrade the software too as it doesn't sync with Itunes.

In two minds over using Virtual DJ or Itch. Looking for some clarification on the Genius feature used in Virtual DJ.

From my understanding it recommends tracks based on what other DJs have played and can download new recommendations (with internet connection) however this is only available in the pro version. Does anyone have/use it and would you say its a dealbreaker feature?

As it sounds like a brilliant idea and would be good for some moments if your a bit stuck for ideas? Does any other software include this also?

genius with the pro version only allows you to stream 30sec clips, you have to upgrade to premium membership $9.95 per month.

The genius feature also works for recommendations with just the basic membership (no payment as long as you own the full package) and comes in very handy when you have a mental block.

I never use the download feature personally but the recommendations come in very useful.

Never personally tried itch, but from friends of mine that have it was apparently very buggy and crashed a lot.

VDJ has always been very stable for me and I would highly recommend. I have used with various controllers over the years. But use it with time coded cd's now and cdj 1000's very flexible DJ package. Prefer it over Traktor or Serato any day of the week (have owned both)

So by getting the Pro Basic basic it still makes recommendations, but you need the monthly registration to download the tracks is that right?

That would suit us, as we can use itunes or mastermixdigital to download tracks if needed.

Another question, looking at the comparability table of each package under Hardware Support (Link) - it says that Midi/HID/Mixer Support is not included in VDJ Pro Basic .... what does that mean?

Its Virtual DJ Pro Full you really want.

VDJ Pro Basics Midi/HID/Mixer support means that you can't use controllers with it. Meaning mouse and keyboard control only.

That sounds most likely as I need to be able to work with a midi controller.
