    Tony gave you the answer ages ago Rob. Studding ( Threaded rod )comes in one metre lengths, and here's a supplier.

    Add wing nuts / knobs and lock nuts, cut to length, and away you go.
    B&Q , Maplins or similar should furnish nuts and fixings.
