What risk?
I've not heard about the new SRM450 version two overheating.
They use digital amplifiers too, which produce hardly any heat at all.
In addition, digital amplifiers are very light, so the SRM450V2 actives are actually about 5kg LIGHTER than my Mackie C300z PASSIVES!
If anyone can work out how that can be, I'd be interested to know...as it has me completely stumped!

thought i just posted this but now i cant see it....
thanks for all the advice
Wharfdale system looks tasty
or there's this JBL package, only £719, and no need for a bass unit allegedly:

no need for a seperate bass unit or is that wishful thinking?

Ahhhhh...thanks for that Damien.
I wasn't aware the drivers & actual cabs were lighter, hence my confusion!

only 500 quid plus an amp of course.
what's a good amp for under £300? £200 even better
my budget is, ideally, under £1,000. £800 even better
Looking for a sound system for small to medium size function rooms but with potential for larger if required.
I hear a lot about mackies but then i hear about them overheating so i wouldnt wanna take the risk.
am not against active speakers.
JBL's?
Hya mate have a nosy at this offer, they say they are ex display but the ones I got from them had never been opend.

For amps my personal choice if going for the peavey speakers would be also to go for the pv1500 amp as its perfectly matched, I have these and well impressed.
Plus with the amp, in the future if you want to go bi-amp you wouldn't need to use a crossover as the amp has its own built in.

Buy cheap buy twice is the old saying.
My other advice is buy as loud as you can afford as there is nothing worse than performing a gig and people are shouting "turn it up" when your going full bore !
