There are some real classics out there and there are people on here better educated on Northern Soul than I am. You can always find Northern Soul boxsets quite cheap. What I did was go on to I-tunes and look at the most popular ones and I got them. 'Out on the floor', 'Do I love you, indeed I do', 'There's a ghost in my house' are 3 that spring to mind but as I said, one of the other guys will be able to help I'm sure.

It's always nice to be able to do something different. Have a good one.

The North of Watford albums are a great start. I think there's a Best Northern Soul album also. Oops, sorry, it's an Ultimate.

I'm merely competent In Northern. Compared to the true followers, I know nothing. It's a great style of music, go with the classics, and you can't fail. Don't forget to use Tamla to get in and out of the set. Quite a lot of of the Tamla output is classed as Northern.

There's A Ghost In My House - R Dean Taylor
    Sliced Tomatoes - Just Brothers
    6 by 6 - Earl van Dyke

But the daddy of them all is:

Frank Wilson - Do I Love You (Indeed I Do) ...

....this song has such a profound effect on me that I well up (in a good way) when ever I play it, I can't explain why but I love it when music moves you like that!

Wigan Ovation - Skiing in the snow
R Dean Taylor - There's a ghost in my house
    Al Wilson - The Snake
Frank Wilson - Do I love you
Contours - Just a little misunderstanding

Although, purists might not consider some of those to be true Northern Soul, so best to check with the client or requester. I rarely get asked for it, and when I do it seems to divide the crowd with at least half not even knowing the tracks!

    Hi,

you can't beat what I call mainstream Northern Soul.

There are some die-hards out there that will tell you thats "Commercial Northern Soul"

I specialise in Northern Soul nights and I would recommend for starters:

Northern Soul Forever - Classic cuts from the 60's and 70's - £4.98
    http://www.allmusicimport.com/660883.html?GoogleBaseUK

    A Treasurey of Northern Soul - Needle in a haystack Volume 1 - £7.98
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Treasury-Nor.../dp/B0001XQC4Y

The Ultimate Northern Soul Album - £1.95
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Ultimate-Nor.../dp/B000296FW6

Keeping the Faith - Northern Soul Box set (4cd) -£25.93
    http://www.thehut.com/hut/8562360.pr...campaign=gp_cd

I could go on and on, but these should cover most events.

    Keep the Faith!
