    Default SEO Company

I know that SEO has been covered before but does anyone know a good (and affordable) company that specialise in SEO?

Ive been in contact with one company (who have done an initial assessment) who want £1000 start-up costs then £250 per month (ongoing).

Any help would be appreciated as I'm not even listed on the first page of Google!

Do it yourself. They are all rip off companies.

Have a read of this tells you all about how to do it for free.

Keywords is the way forward, the better the words, the better your ranking.

This basically tells you about your site

Your keywords are not very good:

I've got a friend who does this so I'll find out if she does any private work and I'll let you know a price.

I wouldn't touch SEO companies with a bargepole, sorry but it's exploitation of the ignorant, plain and simple.

Relevant page titles, good meta descriptions, meta keywords (not spamming), page copy (content), relevant reciprocal links - read up on those terms and implement what you learn, it's not difficult at all.

You should also get your self a Google account and use their Webmaster Tools (including a Sitemap), also use things like Google Maps and Google Analytics on your Google account. Look into Adwords, your hard-earned is better spent on a good localised Adwords campaign than handing it over to any SEO company to do nothing with.

    Just my opinion

Totally agree, avoid them like the plague, many of them are just a bunch of fraudsters IMO. Ad words are fine, but choose your 'search terms' carefully and quantify them with your location i.e. if you live in Oxford 'mobile disco oxford' will bring you more meaningfull click throughs than 'mobile disco' will, and cost you less. Finally don't bother with the contextual display option.

Cheers for the replies. Im begining to agree that the companies are a rip off. Meta descriptions/keywords etc are beyone me. I list 7th down for mobile disco workington but fail to list for mobile disco cumbria or west cumbria. Ive figured out that reciprocal links are things like out linking to the Mobile Disco Directory and other places i advertise. Is that right? I think the best bet is to compare my keywords to the "competition" and see where im going wrong.

I have google analytics but have still to figure its full potential. Websites do my Bl dy head in. Give me the hardware and ill build you a top computer, but give me the internet and ill hang myself

For a good explanation of what the meta description is and what it does, along with lots of other useful starter information, see http://www.google.com/webmasters/doc...rter-guide.pdf.

You're half right. Linking to them is just an outbound link, which won't improve your ranking much. Linking to them and having them link back to you is the reciprocal part and is better. And they should be relevant as well, don't just submit to every link farm or directory you can find.
