Keep a duster and some chalk handy, then people can write their requests on the speakers
Hammerite will dry OK, eventually, but really isn't good on wood. For a quick job, a tin of emulsion will do quite well.
There's an element of snobbery of sorts going on, in the best possible taste of course
There's the association with seeing gawd awful tatty speakers with carpet hanging off them, people think of that as soon as carpet is mentioned.
There's also confusing carpet covering with fabric convering. The Yamaha's will not be covered in carpet!
Not the type you'll find on a floor anyway. It will be a densely woven fabric with a similar texture to carpet, but specifically designed for gluing to surfaces such as speaker boxes.
It will also be very hard waring and hence expensive. It won't be £2.99 sqm from the local Capet Right. More like £10+ sqm.
