Sorry - I didn't mean individual units, mine is still doing the job it was built for pretty well too. What I meant was that quite soon other manufacturers are going to start releasing new units which are likely to make the Cortex look technically inferior. I had a play with the Numark DDS a few weeks ago and it knocks the spots off the Cortex from a usability point of view, the screen is bright and clear and the whole unit is so responsive compared to the HDC3000 I've got (like you don't have to sometimes wait 15-20 seconds for file information to come up which can be a major pain in the bum - but this could just be because I've loaded the unit with somewhere in the region of about 11,000 tracks ).

Yeah, that's been the cause of the majority of problems I've had - customer supplied MP3's, but then if they don't break WinAmp/Windows Media Player/whatever phone they're playing it on, why should it break a peice of "professional" equipment eh? Anyway, I normally pass anything a customer gives me through dBpowerAMP Music Converter (freeware) before playing it now as then I know it'll play without issue.

Footnote: completely forgot to try a CD-TEXT CD at the weekend - I'll try and drag it out sometime this week and have a go.

A Cortex 1000 doesn't seem to mind 18,000 tracks.I've had that many on at home. It works even better with 4,999 on the road.

I tested the database software at home at it worked with 38,000 tracks and was very fast in its search routine.

I only use it as a back up player - with a few songs on it.
