Default Replace Laptop HDD - Keep Vista

Acer Aspire 5310 (80GB HDD) came with Microsoft Vista Home Premium Pre-installed, and despite being nearly full to the brim, still functions pretty fast etc.

I would like to replace the hard disk drive with something of a higher capacity, but have no boot disk or anything, no copy of Vista atall. I have a Licence though for it obviously.

I have a 1TB External HDD, so plenty of space to transfer to if changing drives over.

    What steps do I take,
    Should I complain to Acer?

Why would you complain to Acer if you need a big HDD?

I would just use an external HDD. If the laptop is working fine and fast just store your music on an external one.

I would. It's obvious that they didn't take steps to ensure that you didn't buy the wrong laptop for your needs.

Actually I'd probably take issue with Microsoft. I mean, if they had taken steps to ensure that they didn't unwittingly supply rogue companies like Acer with their product in the first place, enabling them to sell you the finished article, then surely they're at fault? Or am I missing something...?

Another pointless thread where the OP is blaming a company for not actually thinking about what he was buying first!

If you needed a big hard drive surely buying a laptop with a large hard drive would be the answer! Or as suggested get a seperate one!

It's not for Music Storage, all that is on the External. 80GB isn't enough for storing all my programs etc, I have to be careful.

I don't know much about computers but I think your 80 gig hard drive is partitioned, click on my computer and you may have two drives (c & d) perhaps.
I think you can add more space from one to the other but not sure how.

How foolish of Acer not realise that Max G will need a bigger hard drive than 80GB. Shame on them for selling such products. That company should be closed down at once

Seriously Max, you must have known or read the spec when you bought the Laptop, didn't you think then that 80GB wouldn't be suitable for what you needed

Its like buying an Escort then complaining to Ford that there isn't a Ferrari engine under the bonnet.

They are, I have de-partitioned it to aim to offer some extra space.
