Default Accounts - how do you manage yours?

I've downloaded the software package Microsoft Office Accounting 2008 Express and it seems a pretty comprehensive package for business accounts. And, best of all, Microsoft released it as a free package.

I was just wondering what other people used to do their accounts?

I think this has been done fairly recently, so may be worth doing a search.

I use Sage Line 50 (well.. Sage 50 Accounts 2008 as it's now called) which might be a bit over the top, but I'm a bit anal (read tight), so like to have a good grip on where my money comes from and goes!

Ah, found it! April 09! It was in the main discussion forum but I was looking through the Business section.

Anyway, thanks for that advice, Dan!

    Excel.

Why people with small businesses feel the need to go and buy some super duper accounts package for a 10K turnover is beyond me!

Just out of interest Darren have you got a blank excel spreadsheet with how you have your accounts spread out on it?

I have always been interested in using excel.

Use an online service (counterbooks) for the garages which is simple and effective (100-150k) per day. As Darren said I can not imagine needing to use anything like that for discos. Sage prehaps if/when you have a few guys working for you but other than that Excel is way to go.

I've caught up with the thread from April now and this post seems mighty familiar, Daz. It's like deja vu!

The reason I was asking is that the MS Accounting 2008 Express is a free download and it seems tremendously powerful. It can do your quotes, sales, banking, payments, campaigns, reporting, and a lot more besides. Whilst I agree that for a fair few operators it amounts to overkill but I run my business with the control of meglamaniac so it fits in with my plans for world domination!!
