How are you suppose to reply tho the following email i received today....??
I dont have a problem quoting for 2012 but no venue no date nothing...
Most brides in my opinion book there venue before looking for entertainment..

There's always a chance it might be genuine, so I'd reply stating that you will need to know more information including xx, xx & xx in order to give them a quote.

If they don't come back to you, forget about it.

Another example of when standard pricing can be a useful marketing tool.

I sometimes get enquiries like this, and pretty much send back a template email that states the price for a 4-hour evening only party, what it includes, and introduces a few of the more common optional extras depending on the amount of detail in the enquiry. For a standard wedding enquiry like this one I'll bang on about 'soft' extras such as a planning meeting, help with choosing the venue and other services as well as 'hard' aspects such as themes and video recording for instance.

Then point them at the website for further details and of course our wonderful collection of feedback from former clients

With it being 2012 I'd be tempted to suggest that there may be inflationary increases and to allow maybe 10% on top?

Let them know you can't give an accurate quote without more detailed info but give them an idea of what they can expect from you and how you can justify your fees. This is a great opportunity to build rapport with a potential client as it's a wedding that they're planning well in advance so I'd assume they want to get things right and are not just looking for the cheapest quote.

I have had a few like this since January, very very vague enquiries.

Not for Weddings but Barn/Line Dances--I just asked a few quick questions as Rob suggested.

Cilla Black (surprise surprise) never heard another word.

When you think about it its pretty stupid isnt it?

Even the most intelligence disadvantaged Bride knows roughly what DJs charge--its not going to stop the Wedding going ahead is it--I would treat as timewaster--competition checking up--

I have received a huge number of these over the years and tried to be helpful--never heard anymore.

Experience tells me to minimise time spent on these enquiries.

agree with master yoda as usual the way i would have done it would be

my fee for a wedding of duration x hours at a ground level function room within x miles of my base to include dj , equipment set up , operation and take down and removal would be x amount , we do offer extras to this service which can be costed at your convenience.
