    Default JBL vs RCF

Had a demo on JBl Eon 315's and also RCF 712A Powered speakers.

The maximum crowd i usually play to is around 200.

The RCF's are approximately double the price of the JBL's but the JBL's sounded really good - not as good as the RCF's though. My only reservation with the JBL's though is in terms of power.

Have we any users on here?

    Thoughts please.

712A user, and i think there good, although for 200 people i would either recommend the 715a, or add a 705as sub (which is how i do it)

Have used both makes ( similar cabs) on gigs in the last year, JBL a bit harsh--RCF top end superb.

For 200 you might take Shakermakers approach with JBLs which I believe Gary likes-- which is to use with Peavey Subs ( secondhand giveaway prices)

    Waits for the Peavey knockers

The Peavey's aren't the best in the world, that's true.

Oh sorry (not with it today)... I have JBL JR125's full range. Big, heavy and meaty but very harsh as you say and top end. I don't know what the Eon's are like but I know someone who says that they sound quite harsh too. I like JBL myself. You can really give them some stick.

IMHO, the EON is the most horrid sounding speaker that JBL have ever produced, you can almost hear the plasticness screaching at your face.

The JRX cabs however are MUCH nicer sounding and represent a really good value entry level box that I highly recommend.

Incidentally, JBL boxes at all levels from Vertec down are known for their relatively harsh sounding mid high sections, but that's nothing a little tweaking on a good 1/3 octave GEQ won't smooth out.

A1 - I find that if I am using the bass bins with them and also take some of the high and mid out on the mixer channels, it produces a much better sound. I don't use a seperate EQ so the mixer does the job well enough at the moment.

have a listen to the qsc k12's or k10's similar price to the rcf's but a much tighter sound.
