    Default 80's night

We're doing an 80's night in September and it's fancy dress.

Any ideas? We're a couple so could do something coupley?

Also, what kind of set up could I use to give an eighties feel?

Star Wars? Princess Leah (spelling?) and a Wookie (joke)

Buy a few Rubik cubes (the cheapo ones from Poundland) and leave them on tables

I thought Afros, Mirrorballs and Star Wars were all 70's?

I did see some oversize rubik's cubes in a poundstore not long ago I'll have to try and remember which one it was.

I've done a few 80's nights and they always go down well, be prepared to not get them all back in though!

(Star Wars kind of ran from 1977 - 1983, and at the 80's nights I have someone usually comes as Darth Vader or a Stormtrooper)

Spot prizes of white T shirts saying 'RELAX' go down well as well if you do a name that tune of 80's TV shows during the buffet

    How brave are you?

Male make-up was in, as Boy George or, if braver, Adam Ant.

Or get the Miami Vice look.

New romantics, with velvet, ruffles, glitter etc.

    Or maybe go down-market punk.

Maybe a bit of power-dressing with those shoulder pads. You too could be Alexis.

If you want to be more casual, Magnum had a great line in Hawaian shirts.
Do you really want me to play that?

Well the answers staring you in the face, sort of.
I know it's 70's but I'm sure children still watched them in the 80's.
And a fancy drees shop would be able to help.
Dress up as Great Uncle Bulgaria and Madame Cholet

How cheesy is that Mr Womble.

Why not dress up as the A-Team? BA fancy dress stuff is still available!

I would consider the likes of Adam Ant, though. It's a look that's not too hard to replicate.

I've used the T-Shirt idea and also had ones with 'Choose Life' - Girlies of a ahem certain age tend to like these more than the 'Relax' ones.

As for fancy dress, the last 80's party I did the Birthday Girls (joint party) can as Dogtanian and one of the Muskahounds which was really good.

You could 80's the rig up with a lightscreen and mirror ball maybe - Classic 80's movie posters put up around the room create a good look (things like The Breakfast Club, Ferris Buellers Day Off, Top Gun etc etc)
