    Default What a night

    Well guys, what a afternoon/night I've had.

The gig was a wedding, in a marquee, in a field, on a farm that the Brides family own.

First of all, the radio mic (or so i though) packed up during the speeches. Handed them the second radio mic...which also decided to have a day off. No biggie, B&G were cool and as it wasnt a huge party the carried on without mic.

Got them back, and tried them myself after the speeches when everyone was outside, and I couldnt make them work either. So...out comes the trusty old wired mic...which didnt want to have a go either

Alarm bells start ringing, that maybe it isnt the microphones, but maybe the mixer (the sound on the audio channels was fine though). Switch off the main mixer, and fire up the backup and the mics work fine...so ive ended up on the 2u back-up mixer all night.

On top of that, the power was coming from a generator which cut out twice during the night, and the marquee wasnt exactly erected on a perfectly flat peice of land, so peope were skidding left right and centre...including a couple of near misses with people heading towards the Ultimax. You could just see the PLI claim; "Light falls on guests head...closely followed by the rest of the stand, speakers and DJ!"

All in all a good night (bar the mixer) and the B&G loved it.

Now do i buy the Denon DNX500 or 900...or go for Pioneers DJM5000....?

There's an ancient Chinese curse which fits quite well:

" May you live in interesting times" .

A club in town has it installed and never had an issue with it plus I have an all denon playout thats three years old and never let me down. Compare that to the dodgy pioneer mixers/cdj's Ive used in the same time.....

Lol swings and roundabouts. Ive had pioneer gear never let me down (the faulty mixer is a Citronic ), but ive had Denon mixers in clubs that the cue buttons have decided to pack in, and play puttons on the cd players have took hissyfits.

Is the 900 just the digital evolution of the 500? Because thats all it looks/and is described as?

Pretty much, guess it depends if you wanna spend the extra money and if your going to use the digital features or not, in which case you've already answered that question
