    Default Things You Always Carry

I was talking to another DJ at a venue that had two function rooms and we got on to the subject of 'must haves'

I'm not referring to back up equipment or music, but the little things that you carry just in case.

I always have spare fuses, lamps, a mains safety tester (for when a plug socket at the venue looks dodgy or isn't giving any power), a small torch, and a small multi-meter so I can test a cable or a fuse.

I was wondering what other DJ's carried because you really only discover what you need when something goes wrong and you wished you had a so and so with you.

The first things that come to mind are spare lamps, fuses, a torch, small screwdrivers (both types) and matches.

Much the same for spares & repairs, but also:-

a hand towel - very handy in hot weather when you are setting up and nearly melting in the heat.

wet wipes - useful to wipe grubby cds produced by clients but also nice and cool on the back of your neck when it gets kind of warm in the function room.

assorted adapters - needed when those dancers etc bring a minidisc or cassette player you need to attach to amp with no cables at all.

Maracas & tambourine - for audience participation in some situations.

    limbo stick - as above.

I don't use them all the time, but like to have them handy.
Do you really want me to play that?

Same here. I forgot about that one. Very handy for mopping my brow, and something that gets used every 30 seconds while I'm setting up!

Lighting the candles on a cake.

I was once asked if I had some (as nobody else did), so even though I gave up smoking 4 years ago I still carry a box in case I'm asked again.
