Pity they deleted the first 10 years of the show as a DVD of it would be invaluable

I thought the last show was poorly produced with un-inspiring video packages and not even the current number one being played live / or in even in full.

As for the presenters - new ones, all pretty un-inspiring. Jimmy Saville, incoherant. As ever. DLT, given some of the worst jokes and one liners to contend with..the others did not fare much better. I don't think it did the show justice.

The point has been raised in this household that it went down the pan when it tried to compete with the other music shows on their terms. What they should've done was stick to what they knew.

The only song that was on 2 weeks running was the Number 1, no song that was going down the chart was featured & they never featured album tracks.

You are all missing the point on the mime issue.

When the show started they actually showed the needle being put on the 7 inch single, a statement was made at the time:
"(the artists) will mime their songs. This is a departure from normal BBC practice, but the rule is being relaxed, because the purpose of the programme is to let you hear the discs exctly as recorded. No artist gives quiet the same performance twice, but what goes out in Top of the Pops is precisely what won the 'pop' in the first place"
It was only when they tried to compete with programmes like the Tube etc that live singing was actually allowed (I believe New Order were the first to perform totally live on TOTP)
