Best video MPG editing software

I was wondering what software people use when editing MPG format videos?
If possible the software needs to be cheap or free!

Any thoughts?

Have you tried WMM (windows movie maker) ?

Yea but it says I don’t have the right Codec.
I have tried downloading the Codec with little success.
I have also tried converting the file to one it will recognise.
The problem with that is the sound doesn’t come out too well.

It can be a lot of fun can't it.I run Adobe premiere Pro but alo use Cyberlink Power Director for small projects as it has some nice effects so that might be worth a look too
