Default Anyone looking for a bargain PC?

The main PC here is getting a little old and creaky so I've been looking at various options recently. I usually get a really high-spec all-singing all-dancing PC which then lasts us for Y-E-A-R-S, but funds aren't permitting for that ATM, so I was thinking about just up-grading a couple of bits on the current PC to get it to last a bit longer until the PC fund has sufficient in it (I might still do that anyway and have it as a 'specialised use' / back-up PC, but that's another story).

Anyway, the reason I started this thread is because I happened upon this little bargain that (I hope) will do me nicely for a little while. At this sort of price, I'm not expecting the earth, but the specs for the price (I think) are pretty amazing!

    Intel Pentium DC E5800 3.2GHz
    4GB RAM
    1TB HDD
    DVD Writer

Only down side: No Operating System

Price: £229.99 inc VAT + Delivery!!!

They had a couple of hundred in stock and sold out within a day or so! (I got one of those and it will be delivered early next week), but they've just put it back on the website on pre-order (they're expecting more stock any day), so I thought I'd post it up.

I know you can get better out there, so please, no nay-sayers! However, I think it's a very good PC for the price, so I thought I'd share with you lot.

Regarding the lack of operating system, well, I also found a link on a respected site to a specially-discounted version of Windows 7 Professional, and have ordered that. Everything appears to be above-board, no issues, and it's the full retail-boxed version too, plus it's being sold through a another well-known site, and the retailer seems A1. However, the price almost seems too good to be true (less than half the price of most everywhere else), so I'm not sure I should post a link up until I have it in my hands! However, if anyone wants to take their chances along with me, PM me and I'll send you a link

That sounds very good value, Angela. There is a supplier in Hull who will sell you all the bits inside a PC either ready assembled, or self build. My son and I have done a couple, it's not too difficult. They can also sell OEM operating systems, which are way cheaper than say PC World. One reason they're cheaper is that they can only be sold with a PC.

No can be sold with an item of a pc that is the core to making it run. So any thing from a simple and cheap SATA cable to a processor!

Well, both the computer and the FULL version of windows 7 professional (ie NOT OEM) arrived today - so far so good!

I won't be able to set it up for at least a couple of days though, since Steve is away ATM and I'm not really up to clambering around underneath the desk to get the new computer hooked up to the monitor

(PS eBuyer received another consignment of these computers either yesterday or the day before. They had 300 in the second batch and they've only got about 50 left already! So if anyone was interested, then you'll need to act quickly )

Ebuyer? Ebuyer? I pass the warehouse on a regular basis. Those of us round here who deal with them find it a shame they have no retail counter. A mate ordered from them, and was amazed to track his package from Howden to Birmingham, then Leeds, and finally have it drive past its point of origin ( for Leeds to Holme on Spalding means it came along the M62, and past the warehouse!!!!!| ) to travel all of nine miles to him!

That is a good deal! I bought my PC from eBuyer too, which was from their then limited range of barebones systems - which seems to have expanded now! Excellent value if you want to tailor the system to your specific needs.

To be fair, they'd have to employ at least two or three full-time members of staff at, what... maybe £1000 a week between the three? Plus I'm sure there are other overheads involved.

Not according to the Ebuyer forum. Everything has now been moved to God's County.

Oh! They've moved it all in to one now, have they.

    Didn't know that

    (PS: There's only 20 left now )
