If that!!!
I reckon for kids parties, and kids parties only.

Only when I use a splash screen between karaoke tracks, Well I think it looks good...lol
However
I tend to get a 2 to 1 ratio?
As in 2 enquiries/bookings from each gig (none karaoke).
I don't use any advertisement, other than myself at the gig I am playing.
From a previous post stating how secured my bookings are up until June, I have now got bookings (with deposits) until October with only the odd Friday or Saturday off.
Not bad considering I now have no website.
In fact the last venue where I had to produce PLI, Pro-Dub & PAT......I have 4 gigs in the pipeline.
So my answer to advertising at gigs is >> NO I haven't needed to.
Plus I wouldn't dream of it at private venues.

Its no too from me. I say if the guests at a party want to book you they will approach you or they can always get your details afterwards if they try hard enough.
I know someone that puts out little cards on the tables at his functions and one side its a request slip with some text about how he wants to be sure he plays the music they want and don't hesitate to make requests etc. etc. on the other side its just like a business card, personally I think even that is a bit cheeky and no way would I do it myself but I guess its not too bad.

It does help on brand awareness and may help you look a bit more professional?
It does not have to get in the way of photos - a good photographer will not get it in shot.
I think this in the right venue would not look too bad?
Either that or a small logo on the front of my flight case.

Thats what I was thinking about nothing over the top with information etc just a nice stand saying this is me and who I am.
Because realistically customers from the internet leads and not refferals cant always remember who you are. They remember they had a great time and if they cant find the Booking confirmation letter or business cards I put in that confirmation letter or the follow up e-mail they could be lost in cyber space looking for me.
I was looking at doing text the DJ putting cards on every table with literally just DJ Richard Porter and my mobile number and website as not to look like business cards (less cheeky). But maybe the banner/stand could be text the DJ idea.

The majority of people may not think to ask who you are or assume you are a resident DJ with the venue.
Some people may assume the equipment is always there and you are just hired to play. You never know?
and allot of people may not know the bride or groom that well, or might be embarrassed to ask.
Much easier to just google and do your own search, but if they remember a name (yourdj) they may type it in first and book you as a result?

i always have cards available and often display our business name on a small banner that hangs on our light stand.
id never advertise ourselves directly on the mic, but at gigs where tv screens are in use, we have occasional 'advert' type notices that pop up now and then.
If people dont know the name of your business, they cant look you up and book you for there event.

People don't need to know the name of your business, many times folk have rang me and said they had my number off someone I have worked for prior.
Another thing to be aware of is that if you work for an agency or venue they might not allow you to display any form of advertising. I know that one hotel I work for won't and also if any bands or DJs or other suppliers have signed vans they won't allow them to unload round the front. The casino company had a fair row with the staff a couple of weeks ago as it was raining and a bit muddy round the back.

Oh I do totally agree with that when on an agency job I would ONLY give out agency cards and I have a few brochures off them..
The hotels need to be asked but I have never found them to be objective to most things they usually dont care as long as its not blocking a fire exit or parking out of a space..
