What the AA no longer cover
Apologies if this is old news, but its new to me.
Anyway, I recently found out through my brother and step-mums misfortune that the AA no longer do Accident recovery....at all regardless as to which options you pay for.
Now, here's the annoying bit...they have their own definition of Road Traffic Accident...which is different to Statute...
My brother had a blowout which snapped a suspension strut...they claim that isn't mechanical or electrical failure, and is a RTA, so wouldn't attend.
Yesterday my step mum was driving down the motorway and a lorry dropped a steel plate, she had no option but to go over it due to the traffic in the lanes either side....and ripped the exhaust off. AA claimed on the phone that it was a RTA, even when a Police Traffic Officer argued that legally it wasn't.
Our family's been with the AS for 40 odd years, and this is the first time they've ever pulled something like this...just thought I would make people aware.....

According to my mum, RAC still cover accident recovery as standard. Or look at what deal your insurance company can offer..

Forgive me if I touch a nerve , but , what your step mum experienced certainly wasn't a breakdown was it.
The AA is a brakdown organisation and not an accident recovery company. Accident recovery is covered by your insurance , unless you're trying to save every penny and opt not to take the accident recovery option.
BTW , I worked for the (erm) AA for a fairly big chunk of my life .
I know how you feel about them , that's one of the reasons that I left their empoly.

I'd say it was more of an incident than an accident.
Probably too busy fixing boilers

I've been trying to think now if the AA ever helped me after an accident. I was with them for about 10yrs all in all (through Lloyds TSB's Gold account package thingy) and I called them over breakdowns about 10 or 15 times in that period (enough times that I knew the local recovery guys by name and I lost count of the number of call outs!)
I think in that time myself and my wife only had two accidents, and my insurer were the first people we called and both times they had the van towed off within an hour (Directline that was).
So I guess I've never had reason to come across the above problem before. Insurance for accidents, AA (or RAC as was now this afternoon when the handbrake release cable snapped) for breakdowns. Or you can always count on the police to help you "Clear the highway" which they're legally obliged to do
