I doubt they're looking for a professional or experienced DJ/compere for this, as they'd probably appreciate the vast majority of them will be out earning better dough on a Saturday. Probably aimed at students or budding young singers who love it

Oh I agree with you, but it appears the DJ market is getting worse by the month for 2011 IMO.

Booking numbers are down and the amount money which people want to pay has dramatically reduced.

So far, 2 DJs I know of have hanged up their headphones, as work has dramatically dropped as they either been under cut or out priced. The bigger picture is that when you have establishments who trying to cut back on their costs by offering these kind of prices, surely have a knock on affect to the market?

Maybe I am thinking a little to much into this, but if the regular Pub DJs are being under cut or out priced from places they attend. I assume they will be fighting for work and prepared to go out less than DJ who normally does more private events than pubs, leaving the Private event DJ out in the cold?

I know there is nothing we can do as it is business decision by the establishments, but will we not eventually be fighting two battles, one with the £60 Sids, and the other with Pub DJs?

Nowadays, it's so easy to get gear installed. It makes a tidy rig, it's geared to the venue, and it saves time. At that point, all you need to do is find a driver, and with the lure of fame and a few drinking vouchers, there will always be applicants. Probably not seasoned ( jaundiced? ) professionals, convinced of their worth, but debutants, eager to get a foot on the ladder, without having to go off and buy thousands of pounds worth of kit. ( Which may not be right, especially if they start at say Maplins )
Excalibur. Older than the average DJ.

2 pubs round here have done exactly that. They used to hire in discos but now they have invested a few £££ in basic playout and lighting and now do it all "in house" and use a few local students to DJ.

Let me think about it........... erm - No way.

I left the pubs/bars/clubs to increase my earnings.

I think that £70 is an average wage for install work.

I have previously been a resident in a local bar to me, when they first opened. They have TWO rooms - and both DJ's were paid £80 for the night...

The most I have ever been paid for regular install work in bars/clubs is £175 for the night.
