What are most common business weaknesses FOR a DJ?
Just wondering as I need too plan 4 seminars on this matter.
Obviously this will vary but for those who have been on here for a long time certain topics crop up all the time.
I would say:
- Underselling themselves (ie: what £300!! - you cant get that much around her)
- Rubbish advertising (ie: I packages based on what lights they have etc.)
- Bad long term planning, advanced marketing and guts too just GO FOR IT!
- lack of specialism ( ie: expert in weddings, or black tie functions etc.)
Thats just a few but there must be allot more.
What do you recon?

Those that are able to sell themselves, market themselves, charge loads £££s, have a good website, have quality DJ kit, etc then think that makes them a good DJ - Wrong!
They need to be a good DJ BEFORE they do anything else.
There are guys out there with all the kit, website and gift of the gab, but are appalling DJs.

Spending too much!!
Never quite managed to spend less than £2000 per year (exl. licences) on music - but then that is an essential part of the business model.
Over £5000 pa on equipment - but I always like to have new gear and toys.
At least £2000 on advertising - this is a lot less than I used to spend.
