    Default Additions to website

    Just added more pics to my gallery page and realised when my son looked at the page on a small laptop that it took ages to load. Now I must get this sorted as many people looking at my website will be on laptops and not willing to wait to see pics.
    Does anyone have any idea how to arrange it so the pics load quicker? The gallery page will be put into 3 folders errrrrventually hoping this will help.
    Any help will be gladly appreciated.

    Once you've optimised your images for faster loading, if you're going to have a lot of images on one page it's better to defer loading until the are actually scrolled to.

    I reduce image size, I use Ifranview (free);
    http://www.irfanview.com/
    with their "optimise for web" plugin.

    It shows side-by-side comparison with zoom, and you can pick gif, png or jpg with various options.
    The main rule of thumb is to use jpg for photos only. Logos should be gif or png.
    For some websites, I've used jpg for background, with gif/png for the logo over the top. Easy to do, just use css with background image for the background and a transparent gif for logo...

    Best of both worlds!
