He hasn't got a contract with the agent, has he Angela? That's what I understand him to say. His contract is with the cllient, surely. Thus, why onearth should the agent hand over any money?

Or am I missing something important.

Just because he has a contract with the client, doesn't obviate the need for a contract with the agent.

Well, the answer to that, surely, is implicit in the question I have asked of Toby!!!

Let's take it one step at a time, eh?

Well good luck then. I'm sure I asked it outright, never mind implying anything, for I'm a Professional Blunt Yorkshireman. Post #9. I didn't get an answer that made sense to me, though I'm quite prepared to accept that the failing may easily be entirely mine.

Can I ask why you starting making noise without money in your hand?

I work for an agency with regular cash pick ups. I talk to the client before the event and go through first dance, etc, etc, etc. I then point out my my contract says I have X to pick up on the night and that is once we are set up. I stipulate that whoever is carrying that money should make themselves known early as our contract is not to make noise until paid. I clarify its not that we don't think they are trustworthy, but the agency has had issue with less scrupulouse persons than themselves, which has resulted in this policy.

We set up, we stand in silence, we get paid, we make noise. That is the deal.

Simples. He was told not to ask, and only accept it if it were offered. Politeness. I'm much in favour of it.

Yes but now he has no money for the service he provided and a contract with someone he never asked to pay him. In my mind that is just crazy as there is only going to be one loser if the money doesn't show up.

Politeness is very good and we are always very polite when asking for our funds and slip it in at the end of all the hows the day been, we are just about ready to go chat.
