what amp should i buy?
Hi everyone
I have had 2 Ibiza 1000watt amps and both of them one of the channels stopped working.
I have 2 x 800watt speakers with Piezo Tweeter
Piezo middle range speaker
Subwoofer with a powerful magnet
Input and output through speaker cable
Impedance: 8 ohms
Frequency range: 35 Hz to 20 kHz
SPL max: 95 dB.
I'm using a lap top computer connect to a Nemark Mixtrack Pro.
When playing through the Ibiza amp I kept getting a red light flashing.
I take this as clipping.
Do you think it was due to the amp not powerful enough to cope.
Do you think I need a more powerful amp say a 1200watt amp?
Also i'm now looking for a decent amp ( a good one for a good price ).
Can you recommend any?
Many thanks in advance
Tony

Hi Tony,
Not really my department as I'm an active user but I'm sure some advice will be along soon.
In the meantime pop over to the Newbies forum and say "hello"

il second the peavey pv2600 amp had one for 6 years faultless and good spec and can run down too 2ohm draw too.
id would suggest that you have blown the channel by pushing the amp too hard,
i would also possibly expect that the compant ibiza have exaggerated their specs a bit ive seen some of their kit floating about on the bay of e?
what make are your speakers if their ibiza of like wise i think once you have a decent amp you may find the problem moves down the line and you start blowing drivers

I think you need to look at the efficiency of your speakers too. 95 spl max is fairly low.

Hi All
thanks for all your comments, when i was playing a gig one of the ibiza amp channels starting playing up i could hardly here any music comming out of it, when i connected the speaker to the the good channel i started getting crackles in the sound, so i ended up playing the rest of the gig with one speaker.
if i buy the peavy 2600 amp would do you think it might blow my speakers?
I'm just starting out and I can't afford expensive speakers at the moment.
Many thanks

The clipping is probably crap amp and speakers. Good speaker cost more but are worth thier weight in gold.
NO sound = no party basically so worth buying good.
Crown amps and RCF speakers are well though of.
Have you also considered actives. Allot of DJ's on here use active systems now including myself.
they make life easier IMO and you also get two amps and speakers in one so if one goes you should have another that keeps going.
Thats the theory however but get a cheap active set like a mackie thumps as I know a cocky DJ who
said that and both went in a hot Marquee one night which serves them right for not having back up

Hot Marquee proof passive amp would be a Peavey IMHO latest lightweight range are apparently very good ( according to Dave) which is encouraging.
Active have their place in the market ( not mine)
I actually worked in Leicester ( a miracle) the other night and the Dee Jay had two Thumps and two Carlsboro cabs which I used--I was actually quite impressed with the sound considering the price.
Better listen to the equipment before you buy.

Please pop on over to the Newbies forum and introduce yourself to the rest of the forum and tell us a bit about yourself and what you do.
Apart from being polite, you might find that the advice you are given is more tailored to your requirements if the members know where you are coming from, and what sort of work you do.
Thanks, and I look forward to reading your introduction.

This looks like a good deal and it won't break the bank or your back either.
