Depending on my work rota I'm going to try and go up there.
Maypole is £41.00 for the Sunday/Monday the previous weekend at the moment. Would be nice if it's a similar price the following weekend.

I'll be there ~ DV
I'll keep an eye out for the Travelodge deals again - this year they were out in March - £20 total for a family room for two nights.

There was a growing number this year asking why we don't stay nearer Brum centre, and avoid using taxis.
I have to say that personally, the Steak House ( Sizzler, to be exact, I think ) down the road colours my views more than a little. Excellent grub, low prices, and more than adequate portions.
The total taxi fares was about £7, which I find more than reasonable.
However, it would appear that our little after hours drinking club may have outgrown the Maypole, so in that respect, A hotel with a 24 hour residents bar might be preferable.
Let us see what the future brings, eh?
Edit: I have just had a look at the Travelodges in the centre of Brum, and not surprisingly, not only do they charge for car parking, it's not always suitable for vans, should anyone have gone there in the works vehicle. Maypole again for me, I reckon.

For a city centre hotel (which would possibly mean more establishments you could catch the train from Birmingham New Street to Birmingham International then it's about a 10 - 15 minute walk to the NEC

Do you actually know which end of the NEC BPM is from the station?
We do!
I fondly remember the year that everyone decided that staying at the hotel at the NEC was a stroke of genius. They all arrived in a state of exhaustion, because what they had been told was a gentle stroll, was in fact a route march!
And as I said above in my edit, the vehicle parking at the Mayole ( once you know that the car park is signed as belonging to the Subway sandwich shop ) is free, adequate, and suitable for 3.5T White Vans.

The Maypole for me again
1: sizzler pub just down the road
2: free car park
3: reception is fine as the staff were fine about us being in there
4: split between us the taxi`s are cheap
