    Default yell.com

    Anyone advertising with success?

Have had the usual call to discuss advertising.

Seems cheep enough---its just the response that worries me--or lack of it

    Thanks in advance

I would focus the cash on good SEO and site development.

I do think a yell ad with a website link (and a good website) is worth it but i would not pay for it.

I do not pay for any listing advertising now.

    Don't waste your money.

    Complete rip off. Absolutely rubbish.

I totally disagree with that especially when you don't list your reasons for saying it.

I have advertised with Yell.com every year since I registered as a business (Feb 2005) and I monitor the enquiries I get from places that I pay for my listings and I get lots from there. Before anyone mentions 'tyre kickers' etc, yes, you DO get some but I have had nicely paid jobs from the enquiries that have come from the site.

Ok, it's not for everyone and if all the enquiries I got were £150.00 jobs then I may re-think but it's definitely not the case. It's cheap too.

[Edit] Just to add - The advertising pays for itself easily every year.

Thanks Gary, one aspect of al this which seems to be having an effect is I pads and new style phones where the consumer is picking up the Internet on the move, possibly on quite a small screen.

We have noticed especially with Google ( and I think Yell ) that unless your ad is in the first three places because of the size of the screen you take notice of only the very top entries which are on screen, after that you have to drag the page to see more--most people we suspect may not bother.

Obviously on a conventional Laptop or PC you see the whole spread of ads easily.

We dont know what percentage of people now view Internet services from a miniature screen but it must impact on advertising returns in future.

Not directly connected but we have run an advert continually on Googles first page( not adwords) and quite often been high up in the paid ad rankings---but not received one enquiry in 10 days

This is a Rodeo Bull business and it may be very quiet at the moment---but its not very encouraging and does make us wonder if Yell is any better.

I've never traced a job back to yell.com - considering what they charge i think its a bit of a rip off. I have better luck putting my own details on gumtree.
