Default 1940's music suitable to be used at at disco??

    Hi Good People

Sorry mods if this should be in the music section

I picked up gig yesterday for this Saturday. A charity fundraiser. The client asked me today if I could play an hours worth of 1940's music during the set.

I'm totally clueless regarding this decade. Was wondering if anyone could point in the direction of a few tracks that might work at a disco Or if anyone could recommend some decent 1940's albums worth downloading.

I have a file on my external hardrive marked decades, but it only goes back to the 50's. I'm sure I'll have some somewhere. So if anyone can rattle off a few titles. I'll be etenally grateful.

I checked the Top 10ish lists, but nowt jumped off the screen at me

Vera Lynn, Gracie Fields & Glenn Miller might be a good starting point ?

I'd be looking at these artists:

    Glenn Miller
    Joe Loss
    Andrews Sisters
    Tommy Dorsey
    Artie Shaw
    Woody Herman
    Duke Ellington
    Bing Crosby
    Sinatra
    George Formby
    Vera Lynn
    Ink Spots
    Perry Como
    Gracie Fields
    Al Bowlly

There's loads of wartime music compilations around which will have all these and more on them.

Maybe worth asking client what's been popular at their past events. Waltz, Quickstep etc
If you can't convince them, confuse them

Have you looked at Mastermix, they do a ballroon and warzone discs, together you get a good mixture of old time singalong songs and old time dancing.
And as the posters have already said Big band etc goes down well.
I do partys at a local army regiment club and they always had a set format to the evening, 40's, 50's etc moving forward through the night. Use the Mastermix discs and they always work well.

There is a lot of good dancing music from Glenn Miller and dont forget ole blue eyes was a mega star then.

Also a mass of excellent sing a long stuff that still gets played today ( by me sometimes) Roll out the Barrel, Tipperary etc.
