Default Rock n Roll themed Wedding

In November I had the usual run of weddings etc and when I had the pre event meeting with one couple they said that it was a Rock n Roll themed wedding and that's the only music they wanted playing

This hadn't been mentioned before so I was a bit taken back but hey ho in for a penny and all that.

Again timings are 2hrs out but it was quite a challenge as most tracks were either just over or just under 2mins

My worst nightmare! i hate rock n roll!
I was asked to do an Elvis disco recently playing only Elvis songs?!! passed it on as there was no way i could stand there for 4 hours playing only Elvis, i would of had to squeeze in some David Guetta and Rihanna!

Some good tunes there but I would have struggled playing them all evening. It would have drove me insane!

I did a surprise 70th birthday a few months ago with a similar playlist stipulated by the client. The music was alright, but the guests kept requesting modern stuff and didn't dance at all (I started drifting into their requests and the organisers came up and asked me to stick to what they wanted).

The length of the songs makes these events challenging, you have to have a very good idea about the music to be able to make sensible decisions about the next track in just 2mins!

If given the leeway to veer into Soul, Merseybeat, Doo Wop, R'n'B & the likes of the Byrds & the Kinks like Paul obviously was, I wouldn't have a problem (even sticking strictly to R'n'R could be done). It would make for a very enjoyable gig. As long as the rest of the guests know the guidelines you're working within, there's no problem.

Better to study for one hour with the wise, than to drink wine with the foolish.

Which as you mention I was. The main stipulation was keep it old pre 70's. Obviously the Baseballs etc was under the Doo Wop banner. The guests were up from start to finish and not once did I get asked to play something modern or get this off!

The requests on the night from guests fitted with what the B&G wanted so all good.

I enjoyed it once it was over as it was something I don't normally do a whole gig of. Certainly kept me on my toes

Correct. I might question the credentials of some of the alleged R'n'R tracks, but I'd love to play them.

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat? In the old days, we used to manage to do this with 7" singles. That was when DJ's were DJ's, not IT consultants.
