charlie my wizard used to loose it's way about halfway through a show, almost as if it had lost dmx signal and act like it had a mind of it's own.
solution was to fit dmx terminator seemed to keep it on track.
not sure if it was the long term solution only used it a couple of times after that then sold it.

What are you trying to control it with? They are easy when used with Martin light jockey. you can even create a quick programme on the fly or have hot keys set up for quick change. The macro's are also accessible if you just want it to run itself. Addressing becomes easy.
The discharge lamps won't hot start (sames as the MX4's I use) so you need to set all you fixtures to lamp off on light jockey when you switch on or hit the full blackout facility, if you need them soon afterwards. (lamp off is preferred if going to be dormant at start of evening for a long period, ie early set up, but allow sufficient time to restrike prior to use - can be about 5 minutes sometimes depending on how temporamental they are being).
Putting EFX to shame is rubbish. Is you discharge lamp aligned properly as this affects performance. i haven't got a Wizard (but have played with on on light jockey and liked), but lamp alignment on the MX4's is essential for full brightness.
If you are using pro fixtures, the right controller is always a good idea.

Sure, I shall be around this afternoon. Make sure you have the light and controller to hand so I can talk you through setting it up.

All resolved now, DMX controller just needed a switch flicked on the back to set the correct output. Easy to miss as it probably got knocked in transit and I was trying DMX dip switch settings and everything else other than that!
Enjoy the light Charlie, it should hopefully impress now.
