Default What alternatives are there to Wizards/Mania?

Inspired by another thread, what is comparable to or better than a Wizard? Well. in my opinion, two Wizards, cos when I used Charlie's two together I was seriously impressed by them. So much better than just one.

I have no experience of the Extremes, and all I can gather is that they aren't a light for novices.

OK folks, over to you. The floor is yours.

    Charlie had 2 x EFX500s not 2 x Wizards.

Then pardon my ignorance, but is a 500/600 not a Wizard? I was working on the principle that the delineation was between the standard 500/600 and the Extreme. Am I wrong?

Edit: I see I am. The 500/600 is titled as a Mania. Right, amendment time.

I use a pair of Warlocks made by Geni they are a Wizard copy and rpogrammed with a 192 controller for static, slow and fast moods , the slow and fast being auto or music triggered, they do a fantastic job.

Why would you need to ask?

I had the EFXs for 4 years and now own Wizards...

Why would I need to ask? Because I am a seeker after wisdom, in search of enlightenment and elucidation, and with a thirst for knowledge.

Ah, I see what you were doing there, you're implying that if I follow in the footsteps of the Master, I shall not need to make my own decisions, but merely blindly accept the teachings as gospel.

Right, whimsy over, I'll be serious. This thread was started in order to explore the options in this area of lighting. To see if , as alleged by some, that equivalent or better modern fixtures are available, or whether the Mania/Wizards are still the only contender in this area.

I have no experience of the Wizzard Extremes, but I've owned Martin EFX 600. I'm sure somebody will correct me, but aren't the only differences between the 500/600's and the extremes the addition of separate colour and gobo wheels?

As for what is comparable or better? I got rid of my efx600 and bought a pair of iRock 7bs. Does everything the Martin does. THey're big and bulky though (but so are the Martins). Another plus point is the gobos are interchangable on the iRocks.

    .
EFX500 - 250w halogen combined colour and gobo wheel
EFX600 - 150w discharge separate colour and gobo wheel with different gobos
Wizard Extreme - 250w discharge and completely different gobos from the EFXs

No, I'm implying that I have experience with both lighting effects so knew the answer you were looking for.

The 600 I owned didn't have separate colour and gobo wheels, just 12 coloured gobos. It was one of the reasons I didn't like it.
