    Default Mobile DJ Application

    Evening all,

I am in the process of developing a "DJ Planner" Application for iPad and need your ideas.

As working mobile DJ's what would you like to see in a specific app for iPad?

The app is called "DJ Roadie" and so far includes features such as

    - Business tools (profits/margins) etc
    - A DJ Diary
    - Useful PDFs (request slips, feedback forms etc)
    - I'm looking at a way to allow guests to send requests through to the app
    - up and coming events
    - I'm working to incorporate a sound meter (depending how accurate I can get it)

So my question to you is, what would YOU find useful in the app? Any ideas?

Please note: this is in no way advertising, I've checked with the admins to confirm this and anyone on here who wants it when it's available will get the app for free. I'm purely looking for ideas to make this a great app. After we've had the discussion we could possibly delete the thread to prevent any potential rule breaks.

    Thanks a lot.

Make it work for both iPad, iPod and iPhone. Means more people can use it!

My advice would to not post any public topics and keep it to yourself as someone else will steal the ideas.
If you have a good product idea don't tell anyone and consult only certain people.

I am currently doing a DVD on something a bit different without much competition - sod telling anyone until I am ready to launch.

If it is for iPhone too, it will only be a "controller" of sorts.

The phone just doesn't have the screen size to do anything really useful with.

As someone without anything i (iPhone, iPod, iPad or iMac), I can't really comment

Hmm, a Sound level meter sounds misleading - I'd suspect that you wouldn't be able to get it accurate at the kind of SPL's we regularly play at (plus the rules on frequency filtering and averaging are quite hard to reproduce if you want to get levels in db in the same way that the H&SE would).

The whole guest request thing has been done to death and drunk people are unlikely to ever use anything more complex than text messages, or in some cases, a pen and paper, to make requests. At some of the gigs I've been to recently people have had enough issues just writing things down

As for other suggestions for functionality....? Not sure.

Not really sure I want the profit margins thing on there because well......its a huge variable sometimes.

The sound level thing is out there, for free......and isn't very accurate.

I would work on what the app can do, really well that others can't rather than trying to do everything.....

I feel your app has no future at all unless it has some sort of sync'ing capability with the iPhone/iPod Touch, I too beg to differ with your comment about the iPhone screen not being useful, only a narrow minded developer would come out with a statement like that.

For some useful advice, you may be better talking to existing companies such as DeckBooks, DJ Event Planner and DJ Intelligence to see if there's an API you can tap into and not re-invent the wheel with an iOS only app.
