    Default Mackie support

    Hi folks,

One of my SRM450 V2s tweeter is very intermittent. It will work for a few seconds then cut out again. It actually hurts your ears when it does work because you're used to it not working, if that makes sense?

I changed over the cables and that doesn't seem to be the problem - just hums a lot.

Dad think it's a dry joint of a problem with the crossover?

Where can I take it to for servicing? Cheers

Could well be a loose component on the crossover board, they can sometimes become loose due to vibration. Are you not confident to have a go yourself?

You could also try swapping the tweeter in the poorly box into the good box, if it works perfectly you've immediately eliminated the tweeter itself as the problem.

Dad might have a go - are they easy to get into/mess up?

    Okay,

Undid both of them and now the tweeter seems to be 'semi working'.

When you set the poorly speaker to 12ock on the gain and plug a mic in, it's a lot quieter and not as clear as the happy mackie. I'm getting feedback so I know the tweeter is still working.

Any suggestions? Also, where can I buy the knobs that go on the back to secure it to a stand?

    Cheers

you need to disconnect the bass driver and test.

If you have both speaker cabinets split open, have you tried swoping the tweeter drivers over? if so does the problem follow the tweeter or does it stay with the cabinet? Just because a tweeter makes a noise, it doesn't mean it's OK, the diaphram inside the tweeter could well be damaged, especially if it's been driven hard, it's a common fault and can easily be fixed, a new diaphram costs around £40 - £50

With the gain set at 12 o'clock a mic feed will be quiet as although full gain for a line input it is actually a lower gain setting for a mic input.

I meant in comparison to the good speaker, both set at 12, one was significantly quiter than the other.
