I had someone spill a full glass of Jack Daniels and Coke over one of my Pioneer CDJ's a few years ago. I was in a small club that I used to play at once a month and he leant over to ask for a track and it was like it was happening in slow motion. I went off big time. It didn't kill the CDJ but I was scared to use it for the rest of the night and unplugged it.
The problem in the end was that the lid (CDJ500Mk2Ltd) was stuck shut and the LCD Display started jumbling up the text. The tempo slider also stuck too. I ended up getting it fixed for £25.00 which was really cool because the bloke who tipped the drink over it gave me £40.00 to get it sorted.

I once had someone spill a drink right over a DJM600 in the middle of a packed club. Luckily they had just took the DJM500 out and it was still sat in the managers office waiting to be collected. That was the longest 5 minutes of my life. Funnily enough the same club had a LED dancefloor and the bouncers ensured there were no drinks on it.
Incidentally, I've never worked in a venue that has said to keep drinks off the dancefloor....

We did a party a few years back for a hotel, it was hotel that had hired us we had been playing for about an hour or so, there was group of people dancing just in front of our setup, when another guy who was on his way back from the bar, suddenly spots one of them that he knew. Obviously he hadn't seen him in a while so, he shouts out his name the guy turns to face him and at the same time the guy with the pint releases it (obviously forgot he had it in his had) and thrusts his arm forward to shake this other guy by the hand, smash goes his pint, less then 3 ft in front, I must admit it was very very funny to watch lke a comedy sketch I couldn't believe it and the guy who dropped it didn't know where to look and sort of skulked away leaving this mess and broken glass.
No one was going to do anything about it so I had to go and hassle bar staff at this hotel quite plush hotel to clean up the drink, the staff didn't seem interested, I pointed out that I'm only the DJ it's there guests, I was not hired as a cleaner. There reaction was yeah that always happens someone will clean up at the end.
I started to get a bit annoyed with them and requested something be done as there was broken glass everywhere, while they faffed about trying to sort out who would would clean it up and then got me dustpans and brushes cloths and buckets etc, after going through several people to obtain this basic kit, when most of them were saying things like "I don't know", "thats not my job", "I think so-an-so may know", so I said something like "Oh you don't know you only work here" as I often here people say, and did the job myself.

Just to clear a few things up, the guy wasnt a "pikey" (traveller/gypsy) and 17 stitches is more than a few.
However, was the guy who slipped to blame, probably not, are the hotel to blame, probably not. It's a tricky one. I wonder if the claimant will just put it down to being an accident, probably not.

Depends, if a customer spilt something in Tescos and another customer then slipped on it, is it Tescos fault?, if you notice they always put out signs slippery wet floor etc.
Specifically relating to the guests at hotels, are they not the customers of the hotel?, I believe they are, many hotels are quick enough to want to see our PLI, I wonder if they are so quick to show theres.
Be interesting to hear the outcome of that case, either way.
But some things are what they are, unavoidable acidents, but the question in court could well come down to were sufficent measures taken to prevent this type of accident, clearly a part of there risk assesment.
