    Default Wedding speeches, speaker location

Hi everyone, I have a booking for a wedding this weekend. I am providing (for the first time) a pa for the speeches and possibly background music at the meal.

My question is: I am using one of the QTX portable pa systems (one speaker)
and was wondering where best to locate the speaker? Should it be near the top table and close to the people using the mics, or would it be best to locate it further down the room to spread the sound a bit?
    What do you think?

    Thanks in advance

    Mike

Further down the room, wack up the wireless mics. Ideally you'll want to use two speakers though.

My expeience is that the speaker needs to be not too far from the sound souce and facing the same direction otherwise it can sound dis orienting. I agree with Charlie that 2 speakers ae preferable to give better fill and coverage but not essential particularly if it is a small room

Well, obviously it depends how many guests will be attending and what the room size is like but even for the smallest rooms, I put one either end, playing background music really quietly.

You don't want it really loud so the people at the back can hear whilst deffning the folk in front of the speaker.

I use the QTX one. I used the mics for the last one they are pretty crap as they kept hissinf being VHF - I would mic up with a decent set. Music great with the sd card - so easy.

I would have it up as high as poss and perhaps even turn it around to face the wall so it dispells some of the sound, although this looks a bit rubbish as all the lights etc are at the back.

Depends how near the people are as you will have one table being deafened and the rest not being able to hear if its a large room. Two or even four speaker is best.

The battery means you can put it anywhere.

Good call. Reflected sound is good advice if you are restricted to just one sound source.

Wow! Thanks guys. I only put the question up about an hour ago!

I know it possibly would be better if I had two speakers, but this is really a bit of a trial to see how it goes (I am doing this one F.O.C., as it will help me learn as well)

re the mics Toby, again I need to try them out, see how it goes.

There will be approx 80 people at the meal. The groom has only requested mics for speeches, and not background music, but I will suggest it to him.

Funny, 'cos I thought the mics were actually very good and fairly good quality!
