    Default Indecisive old tart....

Help me choose my new car! I've narrowed it down to two - a Mercedes Benz C200 CDi Coupe.....or a Toyota Prius:

    Or

On all the stats, the Prius murders the Mercedes....it's more fuel efficient (though not by much), is cheaper to insure, and costs £20/year to tax. But the Merc is a shed load more fun to drive, and a much nicer place to sit. And, like a stupid boy, I much prefer driving a Mercedes over a Toyota. So, over to you.....head or heart? Merc or Prius?

I've been driving japcrap for many, many years, thank you, Paulie. For the record, if you talk to any AA man, he'll tell you that Toyotas are widely regarded as the most reliable make on the road. I've always found them extremely comfortable and great to drive, too.

Having said that, I do like Mercedes styling - their cars have consistently been been my favourite designs in cars since I was a child.

Can't help you with the choice between those two particular cars though, Jonathan. I've only ever driven a large Mercedes, and never driven either of the two cars you're looking at.... and it's easy to make choices when it's someone else's money

I drive a Toyota, would love a Merc.

Personally as I don't have the sense to look after cars properly, I choose the Toyota. When i'm old and I have time to wash it lovingly each week, hopefully I will have the funds for a Merc.

It is written elsewhere that Jonathan is agerly anticipating his retirement, his Focus C-Max is poorly, and he'll hire a van if need be for his remaining gigs. Do keep up at the back.

PS. I'd vote for the Merc. This one.

    Exactamundo, Pedro!

I was looking at another MPV or estate, then thought "why not buy a car I actually want to drive"...so found the Merc. Then remembered I've got another year of a 90 mile commute everyday, so found the Prius.

Interestingly, while I was test driving the Prius, the salesman told him that I'd probably only get 40-45 MPG out of it comapred to the advertised 65+, which is roughly the same as the diesel Merc. Apparently, the hybrid battery on the Prius only works at 29MPH or less...great for running to the supermarket, not great for my daily battle with the M1!

Wow what a shock!! A Ford that's playing up

I've just got rid of that heap of that masqueraded as a Mondeo (I had at BPM) My hand was never out of my pocket with it and I lost a fortune on it. So I went back to Japanese and bought a Mazda 6s. I absolutely love it.

Really can't comment on Mercs as the only ones I've ever driven were Sprinter vans
