I thought that 22 systems was maybe a little much, but it was good to see that budget systems are now sounding better.
There were a handful of rigs which sounded very good first time round, yours, the Logic rig ( to my ears ), the W Audio, and the Vertus spring to mind. There were also a handful where they obviously weren't set up correctly, and because of the collective wisdom available, most of them were transformed with staggering results. One of the best features of the event is the atmosphere, there's no trying to outdo each other, just a wish to compare and contrast equipment, and share knowledge. Each time I've seen rigs with obvious problems, and folk will pile in and help to improve them.

I think the function was a victim of its own success. Twenty two rigs was undoubtedly too many to fit into the timescale. On the plus side, as mentioned earlier, all the rigs displayed were more than acceptable for their purpose, although some are more specialised than others. The variety of offerings was excellent this year, even before we'd got to the "pick'n'mix"

    Roll on next year.

been reading this thread with interest, I'd have loved to have made it to Coalville but, heck maybe next time.

Currently on the look out for a Soundsystem upgrade, a two tops/bin combo...had my mind set on a mackie rig....but I think I'll pop into the local store to take a look at the Yamaha rig too, it looks great, and the comments (Pete's in particular) suggest its worth a serious thought...

That's the beauty of Coleville, You get to listen to lots of systems in a room with people in, It's as close to real live testing as you are going to get!
When I was in a showroom The Yamaha cabs were just so clear and out performed the Peavey and Rcf systems that I listened to at the same time, Even my wife could hear the difference. But in a room full of people talking and drinking you would be hard pushed to seperate some of the systems.

My advice would be listen to as many as you can!,

Well i'm almost recovered i think... Just got to empty the van now... but thought i'd post here first!

WOW WOW and WOW is the first comments i can make. A BIG Thank you to all those that came with a system and to those that just turned up as well - you made the day what it was.

Despite the risk of more snow and bad weather people still turned up and what a good day it turned out to be - i had fun - even if i had no clue what i was on about for more of it . I must admit when i first spotted on the paperwork that we'd have 21 systems i figured that at least half of those would be a usual Yeah put me down and then not turn up but NOPE 18 out of the 21 turned up and the other 3 had contacted me to say they are really sorry they couldn't make it.

Well done that man, he turned up after a near four hour drive with a load of kit, and shared his time, expertise, and gear with all and sundry. ( Once we'd sorted out which way round the snake went, things improved no end. Especially when I was pointed to the correct end to plug into. )

Yes really couldn't thank Andy enough - the day really wouldn't have gone anywhere near as well as it did without him during the setup and throughout the demos.

haha plus a couple of signs saying restricted area... authorised personnel only... or words to that effect at the front where the speakers started... It was quite funny trying to get to the back through the rabbit warren of the lines of speakers.

Have to 100% agree here - i know a few people commented on the brand of kit used as the main playout BUT 90% of the systems went through that so what did it really matter??? They were all getting the same quality of tracks whether they thought it was a good or bad quality it was still equal... And the improvements in the afternoon were mainly down to the tweaking and playing around with the settings on the systems themselves. Yes i'm sure the pioneer did help as well but i think the help and advice from everyone there had more to do with it... That was one of the big joys of the day - having all the systems run through the same tracks and near enough the same system with a flat EQ first then the mix and match and 2nd listening later after tweaks and things.

haha yes who knows what will happen next year!!! I'm sure the event will be on that's for sure and i'm happy to organise it again if no one minds or has any objections but will see nearer the end of the year again as with this years

I'm sure there's much more i can say on the event but i need pancakes biggrin.png ... so i'm going to head home and eat but just wanted to get something up to say thanks to everyone who helped setup, gave demos, provided speakers and other kit, to Andy for all his hard work, the Advanced Event Designs team ( Graham, Andy E and Sharon) and of course to all the boys and girls that just turned up to have a look, listen and network smile.png

Some pictures i did manage to grab on the day are now on the Advanced Event Designs facebook page in the photos section here http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?s...7171649&type=1

And for those who haven't looked on Autoroute, Andy finished a gig early Sunday am, loaded the van, and drove around 180 miles down to Coalville, pausing to grab forty winks in a layby somewhere, was first into the room ( cos I'd driven off to get some heat in the van, and a coffee in me at first light, having tried to kip in the van from my arrival some four hours earlier ) set up a playout, with feeds to all and sundry, and then proceeded to play all the tracks in manually for everyone.

He then loaded up the van, with his trusty sidekick Shaun, and drove 180 miles back in the sleet and snow. The lad's a star.
