PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME WITH MY DMX LIGHTING!
Hey everyone.
I would like to start by saying I CANNOT GET MY HEAD AROUND DMX AHHH!
It's so annoying!
I have got a greenwhich instruments GW-DMX that I need to setup but need to know what to set the dipswitch settings to etc...
I have got a impossibled(4/10 channel) that goes to a acme invincibeld(3 channel) that goes to a equinox sigma(5channel) that goes to a revo 3 (4/10 channel)
Please could someone tell me what value I would need to put the dipswitches/values to etc.. To set them up?
This would be very much appreciated
Thanks,
Charlie

First, Give people time before bumping your thread!
Second, Look here for a DMX calculator: http://www.seda.org.uk/resources/dmxcalculator/ first fixture set to 1 then the next channel 5 or 11. Keep on going until all your fixtures are addresses. If two fixtures share the same address numbers they will both react to the same dmx data. Which can be a good thing or a bad thing!

Sory! I was getting a bit panicky because I really want it set up for the next gig
So the revo and impossibled would both be set to DMX address 1 even though one is at the start of the chain and one is at the end of the chain?
So it would go 1,5,11,13?

Yep. I have had rigs where the first device in the chain had channel 200. It doesn't really matter. So long as the channels are set right it will only listen to those and yes.

WOW!! That's a ridiculously big rig! I bet that looked good though?
Mines just basic, but gets the job done
Thank you so much! That's helped me get the grip of it much better!

Not really most was taken up by hard patched dimmers...

Ahh, bit of a pain in the ass then
Just another quick one, on the controllers software it says the minimum DMX channels you can use is 16 and the highest I am going is 13?
Don't suppose you know how to get round this? :/

Create a fake fixture to use up the remaining 3 channels. The controller can send DMX data to addresses 14,15 and 16 and it'll just be ignored by the units you have on lower numbered addresses.

So could I just leave it out at 13, and it should work?
How would you setup the 'fake fixture'?
Thank you

Best thing to do is to try it! If it doesn't work then no!
On a side note from that. I've know controllers say the maximum fixture channels it can handle are 16 but not minimum but i could be wrong.
This might be a silly question but you sure the controller says minimum 16 channels to use not Maximum... Seems odd that a controller will make you use a minimum of 16 channels to start with bearing in mind quite a few lights will only have 3 or 4 channels.
Just a thought and may answer some of the confusion and stop you doing something you don't need to do.
