I went to a rockabilly, surf, fifties/sixties type of night recently and the dj only had one deck and it wasn't a technics it was a Dansette ! an old record player from around the time of the dinosaurs !
The player was hooked up to a guitar type amplifier on the floor and the pauses in the music were for as long as the dj took to swap over each 7" single, stop the turntable, remove the arm, take off the record, put back in sleeve, take next record from sleeve, put on turntable, place needle in groove, start turntable, dancing resumes,
The lack of bass or anything aproaching a "modern sound" didn't seem to be a problem as the music was all rock and roll surf type trebley sounding stuff.
It was a refreshing change to see this type of "djing" and a million miles away from the sort of aproach I take,
