Default Do you have a start up song?

As in a song you always play when you're system is kicking in and you're checking everything works the way it should?

I always fire up on Mr Bojangles, Jose Gonsalez's Heartbeats or Sigur Ros' Hoppipolla for some weird OCD reason that I'm not really sure of. I just feel the need to open my faders on one of those songs and have done for years.

Do you do anything similar or am I just weird?

I always play hit the road jack at low volume straight after I've finished but don't really care what song I test the speakers to ...

Two years ago it was Deadmau5 - I remember to soundcheck, since April last year I've used 'The Look' by Metronomy.

Jim, do you mean a soundcheck song?

Mine for some reason is usually Madness - One Step Beyond.
Don't know why? Just always used it.

I tend to use a Hooked On Classics Number by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, basically classical music with a more modern beat, if anyones in the room, always seems to get them tapping along

Back in the day, when much more mic work was the accepted norm, I (and many other DJs) used to open with 'Time is Tight' - Booker T and the MGs, it's a great talk over tune. I would probably still use it now to introduce a specialist motown/NS/stax set or similar.

I generally use Lovely Day- Bill Withers, as it has a long intro, which I can use to introduce myself if I fancy it.

I don't have a particular start or soundcheck song - but given an empty venue I'll play something well produced just to hear how nice it sounds. Michael Jackson's The Girl Is Mine is one of my uncharacteristic choices.
