I'm not trying to be funny but maybe check out the top 40 now and then, most teens only want chart music and those are just top 40's.

We do a lot of 11-15 years old gigs, if you start playing music that hasn't hit the charts in the last 2 years they loose interest, stick with modern chart stuff and I can almost guarantee you a full dancefloor all night.

As with all chart music and as bad as some of them are the kids love them: http://www.bbc.co.uk./radio1/chart/singles

I would say they are the easiest and best gigs, 2-3 hours normally, you can have a packed dance floor, no drunks, a really good vibe and will enjoy it. Your unlikely to be able to charge as much as high end wedding mind. We will often try and get them to change the date for a Sunday, for a reduced rate, because the lost earning potential for a Saturday makes them not cost effective to price low.

It's hard to say this without sounding rude (which is not the intention), but seriously, should DJ's not have a clue about current hits, the ones in that list are either big hits or massive global hits, a DJ without knowledge of them maybe should not be doing teen parties as they'll bombard you with requests for similar stuff you will also not know.

Bauuer is the proper Harlem Shake, and no, it was not done to 'copy' Gangnam Style, the track came out ages ago, and was picked up by someone other than the original producer and became a internet hit with little to no input from them.

It's also probably the most basic and how the hell did this become popular track I've ever heard ... one pound fish man deserves more credit!

Fair question and in answer to it I do not usually do teen parties but I was asked to do this one as a favour. As far as getting bombarded with requests (well that's why I asked in advance and everything else on the list I had either heard of or already had), whilst I do keep a very loose eye on the charts (my usual bookings don't require a detailed knowledge of the current charts I'm not au-fait with every entry so when I did Google some of the songs various versions came up I thought I'd pose the question here (which for me was useful because of the heads up on explicit lyrics).

The actual play-list suggested/requested runs to over 100 songs, if I had been posting or Googling every single one of them then I would agree with your first paragraph, but every now and then a couple of songs do slip through my radar.

I do gigs for all ages but I'm not 100% with every song that gets requested. However, recently, I have found a new app called O2 Tracks (linky here) which downloads the weekly top 40 to my Android phone and I can listen to them on there. That's how I've been discovering new music recently. It's an official O2 app so it's all legit and above board. Anyone on O2 should try it! O2 customers get it free for the first so many weeks and then I believe's it's a mere £1 a week - cheap enough for keeping up to date with the charts on the move.

You don't have to be on 02 either. There's a free trial and then it's £5 a month I believe for non o2 customers.

Off topic i guess but it really does annoy me when these artistes who make 'pop' songs which are mostly bought by youngsters have to put swearing in them?? Why?? I must be getting old

Ah, shake, not shuffle - I must be getting old.... watch out Peter, catching you up lol

In all seriousness, I can't stand Harlem Shake, just another crappy group trying to repeat the success of Gangnam Style - I can't see much longevity in this one....
It's another youtube viral dance thing with people doing a silly dance in strange and public places. Quite amusing some of them!
