Upbeat Country & Western songs
Ive a wedding on Saturday where the B&G have asked for some country and western for the parents. Now its not my strongest subject, and the ones I know are fairly downtempo slower ones, but would like to be able to include a few upbeat ones throughout the night if anyone can think of any?
Thanks
Steve

Clearly not my strongest subject either, but if you're talking about the party favourites to throw in to a mix, then the usual suspects would be:
Mavericks - Dance the night away
Shania Twain (anything)
There's also a few good mid-tempo ones from the likes of Johnny Cash, Don Henley, LeAnne Rimes, etc.
If you're after more serious Country & Western then I'm sure someone else will be along soon with the answers...

So you've never played Dolly Parton 9 to 5?
Kentucky Headhunters- Oh Lonesome me
Mike Melange/Alan Connor- Let your love flow ( Barclaycard advert. Bellamy Brothers originally. )
Mavericks-Here comes my baby
Leann Rimes-How do I live? ( There are a couple of dance mixes kicking about. ) Same goes for Can't fight the moonlight.
More later.

I had 'ring of fire' as a request at a wedding last week and it went down a storm!
-
bellamy brothers - let your love flow
kenny rogers - the gambler
dolly parton - jolene
-
Billie Jo Spears - What I've got in mind
Lynn Anderson - Rose Garden
Alan Jackson - Don't rock the jukebox
Asleep at the wheel - Lay down Sally
All fast C&W that I have been playing for years. Alan Jackson has several other fast tracks and Asleep at the Wheel ( what a name ) have a great version.
Honestly can't remember where I bought them though they should be on Itunes or Amazon.

Some good ones there, Chris.
Waylon Jenning- Good ol' Boys ( Dukes of Hazard. )
Billy Swan-I Can Help.
Charlie Daniels-Devil went down to Georgia.
Jimmy Buffety-Margaritaville
Eddie Rabbitt- I love a rainy night
Charlie Pride-Crystal Chandeliers
Ray Stevens-Misty
Eagles- Already Gone, Life in the fast lane, Heartache tonight, Good day in hell, Take it easy,.
Orleans-Let there be music
Dixie Chicks-There's your trouble
Flaco Jimenez/Maverisks- All you ever do is bring me down
George Strait/Jimmy Buffet-Five o'clock somewhere
Lady Antebellum-Need you now
Lonestar-Tequila Talkin'
Martina McBride-Independence Day, Happy Girl.
Mary Chapin Carpenter- Shut up and kiss me, The Hard Way, He thinks he'll keep her, I feel lucky.
Steve Earle-Johnny come lately, Galway Girl.
Not all are stone cold certain dance floor fillers, but mostly up-tempo. While one or two are slightly left field, none are too way off the mark. Hope this helps.

+1 for Bellamy Brother's Let Your Love Flow.
A couple of guys sang it at one of my karaokes about 18 months ago and it went down an absolute storm. So much so that it's found it's way as a regular on to my playlists and it still gets people dancing.
There was also a remake of Glen Campbell's Rhinestone Cowboy a few years ago. It was Rikki & Daz feat Glen Campbell - Rhinestone Cowboy (Giddy Up) and, at the time of it's release, was bringing people to the dancefloor. Could be worth a try although it might be a bit too cheesy for a hardcore C&W crowd.
Also, there's Brenda's Lee's track Let's Jump The Broomstick which, although some might say is not true C&W, it is Rock-a-billy which is a fusion of C&W and R&B which became one of the earlier forms of Rock'n'Roll (bit of a history lesson there!!). Also, I much prefer Rock-a-billy as, by the end of the song, your wife hasn't left you (and taken the dog!) and you've ended up drinking! It's also much dancier!!
