Wedding backdrops
I'm looking into top table/ceremony backdrops using pipe and base, drapes and some kind of LED lighting. Anyone already do this and give me some pointers? Looking to buy and use as part of a package I am working on, so links to the various components would be good too.

I was considering replying, but the only thing I can say is....
No
I don't do this, and have no plans to at present. I've seen some great backdrops, and the best was at a village hall near Long Ashton that basically hangs a large satin white curtain on a frame made from 3" square fence posts with bases made from sheet ply and 2x4" members hooked across the top for stability. They use this to screen off the end of the hall where they have a small stage that bands and DJs set up on and to provide a backdrop for the top table. When the meal is done the cross members are lifted off and the whole thing just gets picked up and moved to one side of the stage out of the way. I've never been asked to back or up light it.
Not the most portable of arrangements, but quite effective none the less. I'd expect something lighter weight could be built using either podiums and/or truss or something like the Ultimax starcloth frames.

I've done quite a bit if research and have found a few places that sell pipe and drape systems and also the LED drapes and cloths. Just waiting for a meeting with a Hotel to discuss before I get into pricing.

The company that supply the venue where I work use fibre optics to light up their "sparkly backdrop" as they call them.
They are made from a sheer fabric with the fibres sewn into them with a satin type backckoth for opacity. The fibres are collected together and clamped into a lightbox on the floor that sits behind the sloth.
Its all held together by plastic piping with metal baseplates, held down with small sandbags.

I offer Star Cloth Backdrops as a hire option and have found it a fantastic add on service to our DJ/Disco Hires as well as our Starlit Dance Floor and Uplighting Packages.
There is several companies out there that offer these, however due to cross hire and also experience of hiring the cloths prior I chose High Spec to purchase mine from.
They are not much outlay and also the return is good and quick.
You can buy the Backdrop, Top Table Cloth and Cake Table Cloth as a package deal, however I prefer the Pipe & Base that I have purchased seperately as the High Spec pipe and base is in my opinion a little less flexible in terms of heights and the locking mechanism isnt the best.
The pipe and base from High Spec also only goes up to 3 metres, whereas I needed mine to go to 4 metres based on other Drapes, etc.
A great investment Darren in my opinion and as long as you take care of the product it has a long shelf life.
High Spec also offer the option to Dry Hire, so maybe ask for a try before you buy?
Hope this helps.

We have 4 of these an they are great, only problem is that chair cover companies have now caught on and are hiring them out at really cheap prices.
