The audience/type of function has a bearing also. Powerbar is probably the most versatile option, added to which, if there's little or no ambient lighting, you're covered. I've lit large halls with only a Powerbar before, no problem.

Agree with the above, quality not quantity. I've done a 16th before in a venue that was a similar size, but I didn't know anything about in advance. I took 2 x Jellydomes, 2 x Cougars, 2 x LED Mirror scanners and a small cluster laser. Luckily I had all the fixtures under DMX control as with everything on it just looked a royal mess! Under DMX control it gave me loads of different effects to play with and on average I had between 2 and 3 fixtures on at any given time.
