Default Do we really believe our own hype?

Recently, I have been reading on the web disco/event/entertainment company taglines which say things like "making dreams come true" and "Making your wedding unforgettable" .

    Is this really the case?

Load of marketing tosh, I can't be done with all that, I just tell 'em straight - 'I'll weave a magical musical soundtrack to the happiest day of your lives'.

But for anyone looking at a few wedding DJ sites the same sort of phrases crop up again and again - I think it totally defeats the 'you're buying into me - I'm unique' message they try and get across. But perhaps that's just a DJ's viewpoint?

DJ's have been notorious over the years for making silly claims "The South East's Premier Entertainment Company" or "No 1 DJ in the North East" and other such hogwash.

I guess with the move towards Wedding specialisation, that same mentality was going to get through amongst that market.

Making dreams come true? That got Jimmy Saville in posthumous trouble.

Agree with your post though.....we are just mobile DJs, nothing more. Certainly no more important to a venue than the hard-working bar and catering staff who get paid a pittance in comparison for being run off their feet all night. Of course we need to promote our services, but like you say, some almost promise the second coming just because they can uplight the urinals.....

    Haha! No chance.

I just wanted to gauge everyone's opinion, that's all. :-)

The only unforgettable weddings I've attended (as a guest) were not as a result of the music or DJ, but with the antics of the wedding party and some of the guests, alcohol and fisticuffs being high on the lists.

My tagline of "Your day, your way" isn't making any outrageous claims! It's because I believe in good customer service (have a mentioned that before somewhere? ) and giving the customer what he/she (usually she!) wants!

The first paragraph of my intro is "Here at Premier Wedding Disco, we can't guarantee that your day will be perfect. We can, however, play a big part in ensuring that your evening reception entertainment helps to round off your special day just the way you want it to.".

So, do I believe my hype? Well, yes! Otherwise I wouldn't have written it!!

Off topic, but I have come across 3 companies that use Premier wedding disco/DJ in the last couple of days on Facebook and they are all regular members on here!
