I did a free gig for charity fundraiser a couple of months ago. It was in aid of the children's cancer unit at a local hospital. In the run up to the gig, I did a bit of reseach in to the charity and I've come across some amazing young people who have endured a hell of a lot more in their short lives then most people could be expected to put up with in a whole lifetime. We raised over £5,000 on the night (we had some good corporate sponsors, too!) which is going towards buying specialist equipment which will made a difference to what, in reality, could be the last few months of their little lives. It was very humbling just to have been a part of that.
Mind you, the thing that sealed the deal was that it was a ladies-only night and the only guys in the room, against 300 women, were me, the magician, the singer and the singer's dad!!

We only reduce our rates by £20 for charity events. That's probably still more than most people donate on the night.

How strange ? My charity nights are quoted at a higher price than a standard disco as a lot more work and preperation is required. I only do free ones for two charities which I support - and 80% of my work is fundraising based.

Not sure what is strange about it. The charity work ive done usually ends up with me working less, as there are other things going on too.
One I did a few months back had various cabaret type acts on, a raffle, a prize draw and sliding coins at a bottle. I only played music for about 90 minutes.
No charity event ive ever done has meant more work or preparation for me. Reading out the numbers for a raffle isn't exactly hard
