    Default 50w led replacement lamp

Been looking at the new bright led barrels and scanners now on the market but have been unable to see replacement lamps. Are there any or do you chuck the unit away?

The theory goes that the unit will fail before the lamp does. LED's (if properly cooled) have lifetimes well in excess of 10,000hrs which equates to about a 18 months of continual use or about 20yrs @ 5hrs per gig, 2 gigs per week. The power supply, stepper motors or control systems are likely to fail first...

In practice of course they do can and do fail occasionally, but it is a "return to manufacturer" job as the LED's will be thermally bonded to something in the unit to ensure that the heat is drawn away from the lamp fast enough.
