Default Acme Dynamo 100w vs 250w

    Hi,

Thinking about buying a set of dynamos. But is there a big noticable difference between the party scans and the 250s?

Would the power be noticable to anyone?

    Thanks..

Oh yes. 100w are only good for very small venues or in very low ambient light conditions. Don't try and save money by buying 100w. Go 250w.

Unless you can use smoke, you are wasting your time with scanners. What kind of venues do you play - I know you said you did mainly weddings...

Barrel scanners are probably a better effect than the single mirror ones and yes, 250w halogen would be better. The low wattage non LED ones are not much use at all.

The point made about smoke is a good one. You can rarely use it these days so the gobo effect (rather than the beam) is the most important thing to consider. A barrel will give you six or so smaller gobo's at once where the flat mirror just gives one big one. I can post you a few pictures if you want to see what I mean.

Unfortunately, you really have to put some money into this type of light effect to get any type of light / gobo output. I have a pair of 60W Chauvet Barrel Intimidators and they are only just enough to fill a large room if the prism function is used and that's 900 quids worth. Although the individual gobo's are clear, they don't quite match up to lights such as the Martin Wizard.

If you haven't got the funds for the 50w LED single mirror scanners, which are superb, then consider effects like the EFX 500 and similar. One of these will cover a big area , especially coupled with some Tri pars, and can be found secondhand for around £200.

Sorry, but why bother asking people's opinion and then just ignoring it?

    Pointless.

A little late now if you have bought both - but certainly worth a look would be the Acme Dynamic 25 range...

    The Scan is £ 165

    The Barrel is £175

Both use a bright 25w Cree LED which is the same as that used in the X-Move 25R from ADJ and seems to be bright enough. Certainly in my opinion compares to a 250w lamp. However, as already said if you want to have a really bright effect then the 50w LED products are as good as any lamp product we used to sell for sure, but you have to have the budget for them.
