    Default What Effect??

    Hi all,

As part of my overhead lighting rig, i've got two cheapo moonflowers, positioned at each end, purely lighting the dance floor.

Now, as they're getting on a bit and are not DMX-able, I want to replace them with a better effect. They are not bad effects themselves, but lack of DMX etc lets them down.

I like the NJD Datamoons but realise they have been discontinued for some time, however there is a pair going on eBay for £150 incl Flight case and Controller and am tempted.

If not the datamoons, is there a similiar effect, possibly LED, that is on the market? I don't want Barrell Scanners like the ADJ InnoRolls as I already have similar effects.

    Thanks all
    Scott.

In the DMX LED moonflower camp there is basically the Acme Cougar (£249 a pair), Acme Cheetah (£600 a pair) and the Chauvet Obsession (2.0 LED version - now discontinued I believe, but around £200 a pair). The obsession is most reasonably priced one of the lot, the Cheetah's are a huge amount of cash for what they are (but they do have a 50w LED, separate colour/gobo wheels and are very smooth).

If you can do without DMX then there's the Acme Gobo Flower for not a lot of money and the Acme LED Stormbird is worth considering as well (15w LED moonflower with rotating prism)

While I was looking for something else I just discovered that Equinox now do a DMX "Power Flower".

It's a 20W COB LED Moonflower effect with 11 gobos for between £99 and £129 (depending where you shop). The only limitation (from what I can see) is that they've used coloured mirrors on the reflector dish and metal gobo's - meaning that every pattern comes out multicoloured.

Looks good for the money though!

Yep, I keep looking at those COB power flowers...but some time ago I also noticed they do a slighty different version called the Impact Flower. This is basically the same as the power flower however you get gobo's that are all the same colour. It's a fixed gobo/colour wheel but it is DMX and it's very very smooth

Good spot! I didn't notice the difference when I went through their site earlier.

At £185 a unit - I have a suspicion that the Cougars might be discontinued soon as these are basically the same unit with an uprated LED
